When it comes to learning English or improving your English speaking skills there are many ways to get started, however, most options tend to be expensive and time consuming.
If you only have a small budget and you’re prepared to become a more fluent English speaker right now, here are 4 easy ways you can improve your English fast and save money at the same time.
1. Entertain yourself in English only
When I first arrived in Brazil Dan and I stayed with a Brazilian friend in Rio de Janeiro. I didn’t speak any Portuguese and our friend said he didn’t speak any English.
Two days later our friend was talking to us in English. I was amazed! He said he had never taken any English language classes but yet he could understand what I was saying and he was responding in English.
I asked him how he was doing it and he said that he learned from watching films and reading books in English. It was that simple for him to start learning the English language.
Of course, watching films all day won’t make you 100% fluent in English straight away but it can definitely help you to improve your vocabulary, especially if you already know some English.
You need to be strict with yourself. Set rules. For example, 2 films per week must be watched in English or every new book you buy must be written in English.
This was the perfect first step for our friend. I was the first person he had ever spoken to in English and after 5 days he was able to hold an entire conversation with me.

2. Give your computer a language make-over
A strange yet effective way to learn new vocabulary and keep English in your mind every day is to change the language settings to English on your computer.
This can take some time to get used to but once you know where things are the language begins to seem normal. If you are going to do this you also need to make sure that you use platforms such as Facebook and Google in English as well.
This strategy is working well for Dan who is currently learning Italian without lessons.
3. Start vlogging
Instead of keeping a written diary hidden away, why not improve your English fast by starting a Youtube channel and creating daily videos in English?
You could easily film a 5 minute vlog each day talking about certain events in your life or issues you’d like to address or even giving tips and advice about a certain topic.
You don’t need any professional camera equipment as you can create quality videos using a smartphone and you only need to have basic video editing skills.
This is a fun and creative way to practice English every day, improve your skills and help others at the same time!
