Today we interview #inspiringnomads and video superstars, Kristin and Shadi from Vacation Couple! Here they share their top vacation spots for relaxation, romance and food plus they tell how to travel cheap and often, without losing the comfort.
Let’s get started…
We are Kristin and Shadi, the Vacation Couple. We’re a couple in our early thirties who live in the heart of Toronto, Ontario. Our passion is finding exciting new places to travel for vacation and to share our experiences and reviews with the world. We especially love tropical destinations and luxury accommodations. We were honored to be interviewed by Hannah as #inspiringnomads and we hope you enjoy getting to know us!
When did you first start travelling internationally and where did you go?
Our first international trip together was to the Riviera Maya in Mexico. We stayed at the Grand Sunset Princess resort and had a gorgeous view of the ocean. It’s such a big place that it actually has ‘trollies’ to get you from one side of the resort to the other. This trip was to celebrate our first Valentine’s Day together and it sparked our passion for travel.
What then inspired you to travel more?
We got to experience so many different things together on our first trip that we were hooked on travel for life. We climbed Coba, visited a cenote, zip-lined over (and into) the water, paddled through a cave, raced an atv took full advantage of the nightlife. Who knew you could pack so much action into just a week of vacation?!
What are your 2 favourite travel destinations and why?
Our two favorite travel destinations are Mexico and the U.S., specifically Cancun and Los Angeles. In our travels so far, Cancun has the softest sand, clearest water, and the best weather. It’s the perfect tropical paradise. Los Angeles, on the other hand, is entertainment central with the best celebrity hot spots, delicious food, and iconic landmarks.
If you could pick anywhere in the world to visit, where would it be?
If we could go anywhere in the world we would go to Europe. There are so many romantic and beautiful places to discover there. Our list includes Italy, France, Spain and Ireland to name just a few.
What is your travel style? Do you prefer to travel cheaper + longer or splurge on short vacations?
Overall, our travel style is spending less and traveling longer. We always plan for an annual week-long tropical resort vacation. However, there is always an exception … and in our case it’s Las Vegas! When we travel to Sin City we always look for deals on accommodations, flights and activities because everything else is going to cost you!
How often do you travel and how do you fund this lifestyle?
We usually travel every few months or so as we get restless. We save our pennies and peruse discount travel websites in pursuit of the best deals for long-distance travel. Most often we look for deals and go where we can find the best one, we like spontaneity. We also exchange services such as promotional video’s and professional photography with companies which helps us travel more often.

Do you have any pre-travel money saving tips you could share?
Our one and only piece of advice on saving money for your travels is to be serious about it. We put aside money from each paycheck and we’re happy to do it.
What are your top go-to resources for booking flights and accommodation?
Our top go-to resource for booking flights and accommodations is Kayak. We don’t always book vacation packages as sometimes booking separately gives you better flight times/less stops and cheaper accommodations.
What 5 items do you always pack no matter what?
The top 5 items we always pack are our cameras (including equipment), hats, sunscreen, lots of swimsuits and our appetites! We always exercise and eat healthy before our travels and so love to indulge while vacationing.
Where to next?! Have you got any exciting travel plans coming up in the future?
Next up on our list of travel adventures is Las Vegas in July! We’re beyond elated about returning to Vegas as we had a blast there last year. We plan to see a Cirque Du Soleil show, ride rollercoasters, float in the pools, eat goodies at Carlos bakery, make grown men cry with our buffet eating skills and find the best mom and pop breakfast place in existence.
We’ll also be visiting another tropical destination later this year but we haven’t decided where yet. One of the best parts of traveling isn’t even the actual traveling, it’s’ the planning and anticipation of your next big adventure.
You can follow all of Kristin and Shadi’s next exciting adventures on vacation-couple.com, YouTube (amazing videos by the way), Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. The options are almost endless!
